When I was a child, I loved eating malunggay leaves. My father loved to cook chicken soup with malunggay leaves on it. I didn't know then its nutritional value but I knew from my father that it is a very healthy food.
Nowadays, we can already find malunggay supplements in different forms. There is even a malunggay bread that is being sold already in the bakery near to our house. That keeps me wondering how healthy malunggay really is.
After much reading, I learned that malunggay leaves is rich in iron. Iron prevents the body's deficiency of red blood cells which is popularly known as anemia. This nutritious food is also rich in calcium. Calcium is essential in the body as it helps the body maintain strong bones and healthy teeth.
The Vitamin C content of malunggay is known to be higher than those of ampalaya leaves. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that is very important in the body as it helps fight off the free radicals that destroys the good cells inside the body. It may also protect us from stroke and against our mind's declining ability as we grow older.
Aside from this, malunggay is also very good for the eyes and skin nutrition as it is rich in Vitamin A. Vitamin A helps prevent a disease of the eye called xerophthalmia.
So, why don't you start adding malunggay leaves to your daily diet? Its very economical yet very much healthy.
