Health Benefits of Grapes

July 24th 2011 15:24
Grape is one of my favorite fruits. I love drinking grape juice after a meal or when I am taking my snacks. Most of the time though, I love eating its fresh and very juicy fruit. Grapes were originally dark red but nowadays, we already have a selection of the different varieties like the purple, green and black.

Grapes have so many health benefits to the human body. Taking grapes a few times in a week would greatly give many benefits to your body. This fruit is a very good source of antioxidants that is very much needed by the body to stay healthy. As we all know, antioxidants do protect our good cells and fight off the cell-damaging free radicals in the body. Free radicals also speed ups our aging process and may cause different diseases, one of which is the deadly disease, cancer.

Grapes contains the important nutrient resveratrol that was found to be effective in preventing cancer. It does not only reduce cancer risks but also those of other diseases. It is also known to improve heart health. Grapes also helps stop or slow-down the progression of breast cancer as well as an important nutrient to help improve urine flow and prostate health.

For those who want to lose weight, grapes are very helpful to increase your metabolism. It is also a very healthy way to lose some weight and burn your excess fats. Grapes also help boost the body's energy levels.

Health Benefits of Tomatoes

July 21st 2011 16:30
When I was a child, my mom would always see to it that we have fresh tomatoes at home. My siblings and I loved eating sliced fresh tomatoes almost everyday. I love the not so ripe ones though while my siblings love the ripe ones. At that time, eating tomato for me was just part of a good meal. However, when I grew older, I learned that my mom had a very good reason why she introduced tomatoes in our daily diet.

Tomatoes have large Vitamin C content which is approximately about 40% of the daily value (DV). Vitamin C is very much needed by the body as it is a very important antioxidant. Antioxidants protect the body from free radicals that destroys the good cells in our body.

Another important nutrient of tomato is lycopene. Lycopene is the red pigment that we can see in tomatoes. Lycopene is also an antioxidant that helps to neutralize the free radicals in the body. Lycopene also helps to make our cells healthy and helps prevent the many diseases that we may catch later in life most especially cancer . Studies by Harvard researchers show that consuming approximately 10 servings of tomatoes a week helps cut the risk of the development of prostate cancer in men. Eating tomatoes regularly will also help lessen the chances of getting cardiovascular diseases.

Other nutrients that we can get from tomatoes are Vitamin A, vitamin B, potassium, iron, to name a few.
