The Atkins diet has gained much popularity through the years as many women and even men who have followed the low carb Atkins diet plan has proven that this weight loss method is really effective. However, even with the testimonies of those who have used this plan successfully, still many people question the effectiveness of the Atkins diet. Some people really want to try it out but because of the negative things that they hear about it, they soon lose interest in it without even trying. The best solution though is to try it yourself and follow the plan strictly so you yourself can attest to its effectiveness.

Since the Atkins diet limits the intake of carbohydrates in the body, we can always expect the effectiveness of the plan. Why? It’s because one of the major reasons that a person becomes fat is because of the excess carbohydrates in the body. Carbohydrates is a necessary nutrient of the body and the body's fuel for energy. We need it daily in order for the body to function properly. However it should be taken moderately, just enough for what we need for our daily activities. Carbohydrates is then broken down into glucose molecules and used as energy and fuel for your brain and muscles. Excess carbohydrates is converted into glycogen and stored in the liver as an energy reserve. Since the body can only store half a day’s supply of glycogen, the excess carbohydrates in the body is then converted to fat which is now stored as fat deposits resulting to a bigger thigh, flabby arms, bigger belly, a double chin, among its many effects. The Atkins diet limits the intake of carbohydrates and sugar in the body. If the body does get enough carbohydrates daily, it then uses the stored energy or glycogen in the liver for energy as well as those which can be found in other areas where fat deposits are stored. The fat deposits are then burned and thus, resulting to weight loss.
Aside from its weight loss benefits, the Atkins diet is also good for general health. Too much carbohydrates and sugar in the body may result to some health problems like the life threatening diabetes. Moderating our sugar and carbohydrates intake will also give us a healthier body and a sound mind.
