The Cancer Fighting Fruit: Papaya

Papaya is popularly known to be a source of many nutrients for the human body. It is also good for beautifying our skin. However, not many people know that this wonder fruit is also a cancer-fighting fruit.

According to www.medindia.net, in a report published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology by Nam Dang who is a University of Florida researcher together with colleagues in Japan, states that papaya leaf extract the production of Th1-type cytokines. These key signaling molecules help the body to regulate the immune system which would lead to therapeutic treatments in fighting cancers in the body. The research results reveal that papaya leaf extract and its tea contains dramatic cancer-fighting properties that helps fight a broad range of tumors.
Papaya is also an excellent source of beta-cryptoxanthin. Its consumption is associated with a lesser risk of getting lung cancer. According to a study published in the January 2004 issue of Cancer Epidomiology Biomakers and Prevention, those who consume high amounts of this compound had a more than 30% drop on their risks of lung cancer. Beta-cryptoxanthin can also be found from oranges, watermelon, corn and red bell peppers.
